Mauritius reef
Here's an interesting shot from Flickr user DIDS'. This seemingly abstract image is actually a low-altitude aerial photograph of a submerged reef just off the southeastern shore of the Indian Ocean island nation of Mauritius. Mauritius is a large island with several offshore reefs providing semi-enclosed lagoons along its eastern and southwestern shores. Ocean waves break on the outer edges of the reef, carrying coral fragments into the lagoon in the streaming patterns seen here. These patterns are relatively stable - note the consistency in the details of the coral patterns between the photograph and the Google Earth image. This is particularly evident if you compare the high-resolution version of the photograph with the view in Google Earth.
