Iceland's Snæfellsnes peninsula
This series of rose-tinted images from Flickr user TDW1968 provides a view of the western coast of Iceland. The first image is a view across the Snæfellsnes peninsula, with Faxaflói bay in the background. The town of Stykkishólmur is located at the tip of the low-lying section of land in the foreground.
This image looks south across the base of the Snæfellsnes peninsula.
The remaining images look west along the length of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The snow-covered mountains in the central and northern parts of the peninsula contrast with the lower, flatter ground to the south. In the upper center part of these images sits the Snæfellsjökull volcano, which provided the starting point for Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth.
