Desert and glaciers
This series of images from Flickr user SteveMcN goes from Iceland to Arizona, with two stops in Greenland along the way. In the foreground of the first image is the Icelandic town of Kópavogur, on the eastern outskirts of Reykjavik. Reykjavik's container port of Sundahöfn is under the clouds at lower left. At right is Mt. Esja, the largest mountain in the Reykjavik area, and beyond the mountain is the Hvalfjörður.
1,400 kilometers to the west, we come to the west coast of Greenland, with this view of the Tapa glacier and the Kangerdlugsuatsiak fjord.
The next image, taken about 65 kilometers further west, shows a group of islands off the west coast of Greenland. The main island in the foreground is Kangamiut, with the town of the same name visible on the left edge of the island in the high-resolution image. The island in the background is Umanak.
The next image transports us another 5,000 kilometers, to the Painted Desert of the American Southwest. The image shows the western edge of the Moenkopi Plateau in Arizona, where the plateau drops about 200 meters to the flatlands on the right.
