Alfred Wegener Peninsula (foreground) in West Greenland
We've been posting many images of East Greenland recently, and neglecting the dramatic landscapes of the western part of the island. This lovely twilight shot, by Flickr user Stewf, shows the stark landscape north of Disko Island. In the foreground is the Alfred Wegener Peninsula, named for the German scientist who proposed the theory of continental drift. Wegener died in Greenland in 1930 during an expedition researching the jet stream.
