The Rakaia River on New Zealand's South Island
This series of images by Flickr user Inezita shows the mountains, lakes, and plains of New Zealand's South Island. The first shot looks over the Rakaia River, which cuts through the rich agricultural land of the South Island's Canterbury Plains. Note the anomaly in the elevation data in the lower-right corner of the Google Earth image.
This image shows Lake Pukaki on the South Island. The glacial runoff which feeds this lake creates the distinctive blue color, due to the finely ground rock particles suspended in the water.
This image shows the Lake Benmore, another bright blue glacial lake near the center of the South Island. We see the Ohau River on the left, flowing into the north end of the lake, and in the upper right, part of the braided river channel of the Pukaki River.
