Central California landscapes
The short flight between Los Angeles and San Francisco can be very scenic. Flickr user FutureFashion posted this series of images from a recent trip, with nice views of central California scenery. This shot shows the intersection of the 170 (left) and 5 (top center) highways in San Fernando, California, on the northern outskirts of Los Angeles. Note the building complex in the lower left center - an empty lot in the photograph (taken April 2006), and a fully developed complex in the Google Earth screenshot, indicating that Google's imagery of this location must be very recent.
This shows Interstate 5 in northern San Fernando, California, passing alongside a small reservoir.

Bouquet Canyon Rd (right) and Seco Canyon Rd (horizontally across center) divide up this view of housing developments in Santa Clarita, California.
This small lake is Castaic Lake, about 150 miles north of Los Angeles.
